ABOUT ABOUT

On April 25th, 2014, The Central Connecticut Regional Planning Agency is teaming up with the Institute for Technology and Business Development at Central Connecticut State University, Northeast Utilities, the Travelers Institute, and other regional partners to hold a one day long workshop on emergency preparedness and disaster recovery. This workshop is being developed for small- and medium -sized businesses throughout Central Connecticut and beyond. It is funded through a grant from the Economic Development Administration.

Small Business – Big Opportunity: Business Continuity Planning and Risk Management Strategies
A business continuity plan details how a business will continue operations in the event of a disaster or emergency. Joan Woodward, President of the Travelers Institute and Executive Vice President of Public Policy for Travelers, will moderate a panel discussion focusing on the importance of business continuity planning and implementation. Marty Henry, Senior Vice President of Risk Control at Travelers, will review how to create, implement, and maintain a business continuity plan. A local insurance agent and small business owner will share best practices and lessons learned from small business owners today.

Short Term vs. Long Term Recovery
What do you do in the immediate aftermath of a disaster or emergency? What resources are available to help your business recover? This presentation and panel discussion will educate business owners of the recovery process and will help owners resume business operations following a disruptive event.

Emergency Preparedness: Working with Utilities and Public Works
Following a disruptive event, utilities and town officials mobilize to help restore services to communities. Presenters and participants on the panel discussion will include a representative from Connecticut Light and Power, a municipal emergency director, small business owner, and a non-government agency. They will speak about the communication processes and procedures to return functions to communities.
